Persepolis is one of the most ancient sites of Iran located in 30 miles or 48 km northeast of Shiraz. It was founded by Darius the Great in the 6th century BC.
Persepolis has perfectly preserved magnificent palaces with detailed stone reliefs monuments of winged bulls with human heads (some covered with graffiti that is hundreds of years old), staircases and a citadel who wxperienced the presence of Alexander the Great in 330 BC.
The on-site museum contains some of the best museum pieces anywhere in the Middle East.
